On Monday 16th May 2022 a presentation took place at Park View School, Lombard Drive, Chester-Le-Street, when the awards were presented for the Park View School/North Lodge Parish Council Community Arts Platinum Jubilee Awards
The Arts Awards encourages school children to submit artworks on a community theme and the winners’ artwork will be publicly displayed across the Parish.
School children were invited to develop their artistic skills by preparing a piece of art on a civic or Platinum Jubilee theme.
The Awards are supported by North Lodge Parish Council. Council Chairman, Dennis Hall, said that the judges had been given a ‘tough task’ because so many of the submissions from the children at the School were quite exceptional.
“Indeed, for this reason”, he said, “the judges felt that, in addition to the three award winners, the eight paintings that were categorised as ‘commendable’ were considered so good that they also deserved an award”
Councillor Hall thanked the Head of Art, Elaine Wright, for all her arduous work over recent months in delivering the scheme, and also thanked Head of School, Andrew Finley, and the Deputy, Pam Hall, for their tremendous support for the Arts Awards, which are planned to run for a further two years.
Thanks also went to Councillors Margaret Caygill, Patrick Driscoll and John Waugh for representing North Lodge Parish Council on the judges panel in what proved to be a most difficult and challenging task.
